IRCS Act 1920 and Branch Committees Rules

The Indian Red Cross Society  was constituted in the year 1920 under the Act XV of 1920 and since then, has been continuously working for the larger humanitarian cause and serving the community. The Act XV of 1920 was last amended around in 1992 and the Rules thereunder were made in 1992, 1994 and 2017.

In order to bring the uniformity in the functioning of the Branches, Managing Body framed Rules for State/UT/District Branches, commonly known as Uniform Rules u/s 5(1) of the Made Under Section 5 of the Indian Red Cross Society Act, 1920 (as Amended by Act No. 22 of 1956 and the Adaptation of Laws (No 4) Order of 1957 and the Act. No. 14 of 1992) which were framed and circulated to States / UTs on 2nd Sept. 2009, after approval from Hon’ble President.

The rules were notified in the Gazette of India on 15th Dec. 2017 as “Branch Committees Rules 2017”. Thereafter, in compliance with the provisions under Section 5(2) of the IRCS Act, these Rules were laid before Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on 9th March 2018 and 16 March 2018 respectively.
